After scoring a string of #1 hit singles, selling millions of records around the world, launching a successful sell-out tour across the U.K/Europe, and making a hit movie - Geri quits the Spice Girls (who at the time were the biggest band in the world). News of Geri's departure becomes worldwide news. Geri was often seen as the leader of group and many polls conducted in the U.K hailed her as the most popular Spice Girl during the group's peak. Herbert from Heart Management said..“Geri was very much the engine behind the band, She was the rocket that kept the whole thing moving. She kept everyone focused and motivated. She knew her vision. Very, very, very streetwise. She knew exactly what she wanted and how it was all going to look, probably even more so than I did at the time.” Both Producers Absolute and Author David Sinclair noted that Geri was very instrumental in the writing and crafting of the Spice Girls' songs. Sinclair stated that in songwriting sessions, her vivid imagination and command of language was more than a match for the others. When performing in videos and the Spiceworld movie, her sheer force of personality meant she was often the most watchable. In public situations she had a natural flair for snatching the headlines, as she did at the Brits when she wore her Union flag dress. Rolling Stone magazine editor Bill Crandall proclaimed that after Geri left ''it just wasn't quite the Spice Girls anymore'', The London Daily Mirror said that it was never the same, while VH1 stated ''suddenly the Spice Girls weren't a hot item anymore''... Variety Magazine went on to say ''With Geri Halliwell leaving the band, I don't see them maintaining their dominance within the international music industry.''
